Ms. Valeria L. Lee
In September of 2000, Valeria L. Lee
became the first President of The Golden Leaf Foundation.
Established in 1999, the mission of The Foundation is to provide
economic impact relief to economically affected or tobacco-dependent
regions of North Carolina. The funding for The Foundation came
from the settlement of North Carolina vs. Philip Morris,
Incorporated, et. al. |

Ms. Lee is one of the
elite professionals in North Carolina philanthropic circles. She
served as Program Officer for the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation for 15
years. Currently, she is Vice Chair ad an incorporating member of
the North Carolina Rural Economic Development Center, serves on the
boards of North Carolina Central University and the North Carolina
Partnership for Children, Leadership Winston-Salem, and Future Focus
20/20.
From 1995-1997, she
chaired Women in Philanthropy and was a candidate for Secretary of State
in 1996. She was a member of the University of North Carolina
Board of Governors for, 1993 to 1995, and the University of North
Carolina Center for Public Television Board form 1980 to 1993, serving
as Chair from 1988 to 1992. Ms. Lee was the founder and General
Manager of a noncommercial public radio station in Warrenton, NC.
A North Carolina native, Ms. Lee earned
a BS degree in Business from North Carolina Central University; a M. Ed.
degree from North Carolina State University and a MA degree in radio,
television and film management from Ohio University.
