has served as Chair of Salem Presbyterian Worldwide Ministries
Conference, Development Campaign for the Eastern Music Festival, Family
Gifts Division Keyauwee Capital Campaign for Tarheel Triad Girl Scout
Council, Campaign for Shelter for Battered Women and Children – Clara
House, Capital Campaign for YMCA’s in Greensboro area, and Literature
Panel for North Carolina Arts Council.
Her
leadership is also demonstrated through the presidential/vice
presidential positions she has held: Women of the Church at First
Presbyterian Church, Board of Directors for Tarheel Triad Girl Scout
Council, and Board of Directors for Family & Children’s Services of
Greater Greensboro, Inc.
Mrs.
Spears has received numerous honors for her volunteerism, including The
O’Henry Award from the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce and the United
Arts Council of Greensboro; the Bennett College Belle Ringer Image
Award; For the Love of Family Award from Family & Children’s Services of
the Greater Greensboro Foundation; and the Weaver Foundation granted
money to Family & Children’s Services of Greensboro to name its
reception area for Mrs. Spears, in recognition of her dedication and
service.
Mrs.
Spears is a native of Whiteville, NC. She attended high school in
Wilmington, NC, earned degrees from UNC at Wilmington, UNC at Chapel
Hill and has done graduate study at UNC- Greensboro. |
