Ms. Juanita M. Bryant

Juanita M. Bryant was appointed Executive Director of the North Carolina Council For Women by then Governor James (Jim) Hunt, April 1993. She held that position until her retirement November 2000. Former Secretary of the NC Department of Administration, Dr. Katie Dorsett, stated, “Mrs. Bryant is one of North Carolina’s most knowledgeable citizens in the area of women’s issues, and we were delighted to have her leading the Council For Women.”

Mrs. Bryant’s involvement with the Council goes back to 1977, when Governor Hunt appointed her to serve as Executive Director of the Leadership Development For Women Program in The Council On the Status of Women, which evolved into the present NC Council For Women.

Currently, she is a member of the Women’s Club of Raleigh, the Booneville Woman’s Club, The Women’s Forum and Wake County Democratic Women. Mrs. Bryant has served on numerous boards and committees including the NC Center on Crime and Punishment, Outstanding Young Women of America, and the President’s Committee on Employment of the Handicapped.

Mrs. Bryant’s honors and awards include, Distinguished Citizen of North Carolina (1984), NC Department of Administration’s 2000 Award for Excellence in Public Service (2001), Women of Achievement Awards (2002).

A North Carolina native, Mrs. Bryant was educated in the Winston-Salem schools and Catawba College in Salisbury, NC.
